Launch of FusionPoint Lite Solution Signals End of Dial-Up Era for Australian Retailers

Apr 01 2009

Transaction Network Services (NYSE:TNS) is launching a new dial EFTPOS to broadband connection solution, called FusionPoint Lite, in the Australian market.

FusionPoint Lite allows Australian retailers to connect their dial-up EFTPOS and ATM terminals to broadband, removing the need for dedicated telephone lines and simplifying communications.

The key benefit for small businesses is the significant cost savings – by eliminating dedicated telephone lines for EFTPOS terminals and ATMs, retailers can save hundreds of dollars each year in monthly line charges.

TNS estimates that Australian small businesses spend about $200 million on EFTPOS telephony costs each year, because most terminals need access to a telephone line to send transactions to the acquiring bank.

FusionPoint Lite can help relieve the cost pressures on small businesses as it reduces these telecommunications costs by up to 70 per cent a year.

Jennifer Stibbard, TNS senior vice president and regional director (Asia Pacific), said, “FusionPoint Lite provides a simple, cost effective solution for migrating legacy EFTPOS and ATM devices to broadband. With FusionPoint Lite, retailers can save money on their phone bills by integrating old and new technology at the sales counter.”

The solution also provides retailers with peace of mind through its automatic dial backup system. Should the broadband service be interrupted for any reason, FusionPoint Lite will automatically use any available telephone line to complete transactions until the broadband becomes available again. Retailers can securely connect their dial-up EFTPOS and ATM terminals to broadband without the expense and disruption of replacing existing terminals. This can extend their broadband investment, as the service can support two
EFTPOS or ATM terminal devices simultaneously.

This capability reduces operational overheads and enables enhanced service to customers, without additional communication costs.

FusionPoint Lite is powered by the PCI DSS certified TNS backbone network, which handles billions of transactions each year from ATMs and EFTPOS devices around the world and is one of the largest payment networks in the payments industry.
